- The Rivers State Branch of Nigerwives held their formal meeting on the 26th of January 1985 at Margaret Allanse’s house at which an interim committee was formed for six months. We started the Branch because of the insistence of Susan Jatto who had enjoyed the Ilorin Branch where she and her husband were residing before moving to Port Harcourt.
- From June 1985, we brought out a quarterly newsletter in which members could express their opinions and make a write-up and mostly matters of interest. By November 1985, we were having our meetings in one of the Conference room at The Faculty of Engineering of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Nowadays, at our monthly meetings held in members houses, we usually had guest speakers who covered various topics ranging from Nutritional information, Gardening, ideas for children’s activities, local history, Food recipes and most of all, the legal status of Nigerwives.
- Our usual programs have included activities for our children, for our husbands, fundraising for our Special School and the Braille Book Production Centre in Lagos.
- We have at this moment more than 60 members hailing from the following countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Congo, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Ethiopia, France, Gabon, Germany, Greece, Holland, India, Isle of Man, Italy, Kenya, Moldovia, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Samosa, Spain, St Kitts, Switzerland, Uganda, Ukraine and lastly but not the least United States of America.
