NIGERWIVES NIGERIA - OWERRI, IMO STATE BRANCH
2019 ANNUAL REPORT
By President Helena NANA
Nigerwives Owerri branch had a very eventful year.
We meet every 2nd Saturday of the month in the homes of a member by 1 pm. We started the year in January at the home of Norma Dike. We celebrated her birthday, prepared hostess lists for the year and above all, set up a plan and strategy on how we are going to host the AGM in the year 2020.
Together with Abia and Enugu branches support, we plan to make the AGM a memorable one. As we are few in number, we decided to boost our financial status by imposing a levy of N1,000 per month on every member. We also held an election of offices and the results were as follows:
1. Nana Helena (Czech Republic) – President
2. Mbaegbu Evelyn (Ghana) – Secretary
3. Okpala Deva (Mauritius) – Treasurer/Financial Secretary
4. Dike Norma (Jamaica) – Welfare Leader
Our branch has eleven (11) paid up members.
Our mood was saddened by the news of the demise of Dr.Mike Ibe, husband of one of our foundation members, Jennifer Ibe on the 13th of July, 2019 after a protracted illness. We stood by our sister and attended the burial ceremony with our husbands.
In August, we held our usual potluck get together/birthday celebration of our dear member Betty Mgbenwelu at her residence. As usual, it was a well-attended occasion with a sumptuous feast and a gift to everyone from Betty.
We also attended the wedding ceremony of Linda Anyanwu at Eziama. A gift was presented to the newlywed couple.
The rest of the year was on slow motion and ended in December at Preet Onyeka’s residence; we wished Preet a very Happy Birthday, received a gift from her and exchanged gifts amongst ourselves.
Despite our decrease in membership and busy schedules preventing us from being present, we always keep in touch with each other and look forward to our meetings.
