We, entire members of Nigerwives Association Owerri Branch are happy to present this yearly report do the National executive.

Notwithstanding the harsh economic situation which is affecting the entire country, we still managed to carry out all yearly activities. Every second Saturday of the month, by 1pm, we meet at our various homes for monthly meeting. Our membership remains stable and attendance at meetings is satisfactory.

We celebrated 80th Birthday in March with our dear Dr. Pamela Njemanze, who has always been a pillar of our branch. We visited her, presented a gift and were pleased to meet Pam’s children who travelled from far and wide to be close to her on such a special day.

In April we attended a traditional wedding ceremony of Anita, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs.Mike Ibe. It was a very colourful and very traditional ceremony with a lot of fun too. Church wedding took place in Port Harcourt on the 16th April 2016.

We were all put into a mourning mood by the sad news of death of our dear sister Stelle Onuoha. She was our foundation member and she held many posts during her life time and was always ready to participate in our activities. She passed away in the Unaited Kingdomwhile on a visit to her daughter. Her burial was attended by all of us. Her absence at our meetings is still felt. Rest in peace, dear Stella.

Yet another burial ceremony took place in May. Our old time Nigerwife who later relocated to the UK – Thelma Obijuru was buried. Her children were very thankful and pleased when they met the “Aunties” from their youthful days I Nigeria.

We also attended the final burial ceremony of Eze Njemanze, after we paid a condoulence visit to the wife, prior to the burial ceremony.

We visited the Comptroller of Immigration, Imo State Command. We were well received and further enlightened by her about our responsibilities and rights as Nigerwives. We were also advised to liaise with the Immigration office in case of any problems we may encounter.

The final few months of the year were full of happier news. Deva Okpala and her husband become a firdt time grandparents with the arrival of their granddaughter Amarachi in the U.K.

We held a party for our children and Granchildren in November in the home of Prof. and Dr. Mrs. Njoku. Their spacious home gave everyone a lot of room to enjoy themselves. We brought various dishes and had enough drinks to really have a splendid day.

In the same mood we celebrated with our husbands at the residence of Prof. Preet Onyeka and her dear husband. It was a perfect end to the year 2016. A lot of delicious dishes were available, but the best of all was the happiness to be together once again in the peaceful and friendly atmosphere as a huge Nigerwives family.

To conclude the report I want to say that it is a beautiful feeling to belong to Nigerwives Association. Communication amongst ourselves either as individuals, or on branch level is now much easier, thanks to various application like Facebook and Whatsap. Thanks to our National President Lakshmi Tombush – Presidents and Secretaries of all Branches can communicate and get latest directives and informations promptly.

We wish all our sisters nation-wide a wonderful New Year 2017.
