Meetings are held every 3rd Saturday of the month. Venue of meetings is rotated in houses of members and sometimes our Centre.
Branch elections did not hold this year for lack of volunteers to hold office. The house came to an agreement that the members of the Executive should continue for another year.
Hosting of the 2016 AGM (Annual General meeting) by Warri Branch for the first time was an interesting experience. It was an opportunity for those of our members who cannot usually attend the AGM, to be part of this one. It was great to meet with Nigerwives from all over Nigeria, and I would like to thank all for braving it to Warri ( and graciously overlooking a few hick-ups here and there. You all contributed to the great success of the meeting.
As president I would also like to thank all my Warri members for their active support and contributions.
CENTRE ACCHIEVE
We thank God for our project success, the Centre for children with special needs. We started the new school year in September with the introduction of an Afternoon program for older children. (the Morning session is for children ages 4 to 12 years). Their ages range from12 to 28. We offer vocational training (shoemaking, hair dressing, sewing, etc) coupled with basic education and speech therapy.
Since April, we are fortunate to have a full-time speech therapist in our employment, since all the kids need him.
Highlight of the year was the Christmas party, at which we were happy to observe the progress some of the children have made since the previous year. Competitions, academic skills, dance, a drama presentation by the teachers and father xmas entertained parents, children and Nigerwives for 3 hours. Gifts were given to the children and staff, and there was an exhibition and sale of items made by the children. (see pic)
We are hoping to lay the foundation of Block B + C soon this year.
BIRTHDAYS
Two of our members attained the age of 80 during the year, and we attended their beautiful birthday parties. They are Joyce Barbara Gyimah and Doris Elaine Aruoture (a.k.a. Mama Solution). We learned a lot about their life in Nigeria all these years (Joyce since 1965 and Doris since 1971). See pics.
WEDDINGS
Two of our members’ sons got married during the year, Eva Ofili’s in the UK and Rosina Tejere’s in Warri.
In conclusion we, Warri Branch Nigerwives thank all the Branches that came for the A.G.M. 2016 once again. God bless you all.
