Membership:

Port-Harcourt branch had 22 paid-up members in 2016. But many of our members are not attending the meetings for one reason to another. We are making efforts to bring them back to meetings. We also had 3 new members who joined us in 2016: Gerte and Abby from Ethiopia and Irene Ogan form South Africa.

AGM 2016 in Abuja:

Evgenia Bolotina-Duru, Margaret Attah and Luchelle Nwokogba represented the branch as Delegates.

Activities:

The year of 2016 was not an easy year for our branch. The security situation in Port-Harcourt was not too pleasant. Some of the events were postponed.

  • Christmas party was held on 18th December. Members exchanged gifts.

  • Children’s day was held at Shell club Port Harcourt on Sunday 18th June. 18 children aged between 9mths -12 years and 10 mothers were attended. The children had lots of fun in the playground and at the pool. Big thanks to Raquel Nwabueze for organizing this event.

  • Bake Sales held on 7th June at Shell Kindergarten School. Many of our members participated. It was very successful and we agree to repeat the same this year.

  • Kaleidescope did not hold this year due to the fact of the security concerns in the state.

Happy events

2016 year was very successful in population increase. We had so many new children and Grandchildren born. Veta and Luda have granddaughters and Margaret had her 4th Grandson. Evgenia and Olga had baby girls.

Dr. Asa’s daughter got married and few members attended the wedding.

Our old member Dubravka came back a winner, after a long battle with cancer. We are happy to have her back with us.

Sad events

  • Hazel had an operation in UK and is still recovering. The family informed us that her recovery is slow but steady. We are praying for her.

  • Hannelore has had a small operation under her eye. Everything went well. We are thanking God.

Bereavements

Some of our members lost their loved ones: Veta Granville lost her husband; Grace Otamiri  lost her mother. One of our members, Larissa Okpala, passed away in Belarus. The branch representatives attended the interment.

Charities

We have donated various items to some charities for homeless children and prisoners.

We are looking forward to a successful 2017.
