NIGERWIVES NIGERIA - OWERRI BRANCH

2017 ANNUAL REPORT

By President Norma DIKE

Owerri branch of Nigerwives has 11 fully paid up members. Our regular meetings are held every second Saturday of the month in member’s homes unless otherwise agreed upon. It seems that as we grow older, our motherly duties or rather that of caring grandmotherly love and care make us travel more often to render our help to our children. At the same time, we rejoice at the safe arrival of our grandchildren. We will always return ‘to base’ to reunite with our dear husbands and families and also attend our meetings.

Our activities were few.

First year memorial service was held in April, 2017 for our dear sister Stella Onuoha. Members attended the solemn and well organized memorial service by her children.

A colorful ceremony was organized for the husband of Jennifer Ibe. Dr. Mike O.N Ibe celebrated 50years of medical practice as a Neuro-Surgeon. It was well attended by colleagues as far as the USA and Jamaica. We presented a gift and a handmade card.

Our staunch member, Dr. Julie Enwere and her husband decided to close up their medical practice and relocate to England. Their departure in February is felt till now.

Our potluck was held in August; it was a combination of lunch and birthday celebration of our dear and indefatiguable member Betty Mgbenwelu. Her welcoming home is a regular venue for our August meeting, thanks to Betty and her caring children.

Deva and her husband traveled to Scotland to witness the 1st birthday of Arwen, Chiamaka, their first grandchild.

Our yearly charity was given to a group of visually impaired young people during a music concert on the 1st of October, 2017 in Owerri.

The year ended with a get together with our husbands in the home of Preet Onyeka. We all felt comfortable in the warmth of their home and enjoyed the food prepared with love by ourselves.

It was indeed a peaceful and happy year in Owerri, Imo State.

We look forward to the New Year 2018.
