NIGERWIVES NIGERIA - ABUJA BRANCH
2016 ANNUAL REPORT
By President: Angie EHIMIKA
Greetings to all our sisters from Abuja Branch. 2016 has been a very interesting but challenging year for our branch. Challenging primarily because of the economic situation of the country which has made it difficult for members to attend meetings or meet their financial obligations to our organization. The year has been interesting because of the many new Nigerwives have come to know in Abuja and the incorporation of interesting activities in our meetings. We’ve also had visiting Nigerwives like our National President, members of the Kaduna Branch and Celia, the President of Abia Branch. Earlier in the year, we were experiencing a low attendance of members to meetings but I’m happy to report an increase as the year has progressed. Below are the activities our branch have organized and participated in:
April – Branch elections. We were also honored with the presence of our National President, Lakshmi. Our newly elected EXCO are:
President - Angie Ehimika (Liberia)
Vice President - Zita K. Ume (Hungary)
Treasurer - Wede Wallace Edherue (Liberia)
Assistant Treasurer - Thalie Matias Jibril (Phillipines)
Secretary - Dorine Oriala (Cameroon/USA)
Assistant Secretary (Membership) - Shirley Oyewoary (India)
Braille Coordinator - Baerbel Jaja (germany)
Chairman of Social Welfare - Elisabeth Bada (Hungary)
Chairman of Aims & Activities - Jasmine Agugua (Laos/USA)
Past President - Gloria Inyang (India)
May –We celebrated Children’s day and Kidshville. It was a fun and relaxed family day with our kids and a few spouses.
July – Graduation Ceremony for the FCT School for the Blind. We had 20 graduates this year. Nigerwives provided graduation caps and gowns. We also presented talking watches to the top 3 academic students and lunch for the graduates. Rest of the school was provided with a light snack and drinks.
October – small fund raising event for us as we participated in a bazaar organized by one of our members, Araceli.
-White Cane Day celebration with the FCT School for the Blind. We organized a general knowledge quiz competition between teams. Winners and other participants were all given prizes. The kids all had fun and even entertained us with songs.
-We had a very enjoyable joint meeting with Kaduna Branch. Again our National President joined us.
November –We celebrated the 77th Birthday of our member Adrianna with a lovely tea party.
December –Another mini fund-raising event at a Christmas party. Miriam Isoun who is also a PH member was very generous in allowing us to use her home. Our own Zita was an excellent Santa Claus….of course there were a few “smart pants” who were not fooled.
In April this year we are getting ready for our children’s Easter Party which I’m sure will be a lot of fun.
On a sad note, we lost a sister who was also a member of PH but lived in Abuja – Elizabeth Diffa (Jamaica). For those of you who attended the AGM in Abuja in 2015, she and her husband attended the Gala night.
Also, we lost our branch Secretary, Doreen in January to the USA. She has relocated back but we are hoping it is temporary.
As a branch, we continue to encourage each other and shear in our celebration as well as the difficult moments. We also share job opportunities and any information we feel is important to each other.
May prayer is that our Branch and Nigerwives Nigeria as a whole continue to grow and be our much needed family away from our original homes.
