2019 ANNUAL REPORT

By President Celia OGBONNA

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS

President - Celia OGBONNA (Philippines)

Vice President - Helga OJI (Germany)

Treasurer - Emma Duru (Philippines)

Secretary - Ingrid EMELIFE (Austria)

Ten (10) financially active members made up Abia State Branch of Nigerwives. Almost all of us have stayed for more than 35 years in Nigeria. In July 1994, our branch had thirty (30) members in the nominal roll. Four (4) members passed away (may their souls rest in perfect peace, amen), fifteen (15) left the country and one (1) opted out of the association.

Over the years, some young Nigerwives come to Abia with their families, then relocate to other parts of Nigeria or leave Nigeria. Few Nigerwives come during Christmas season with their husbands and leave by January back to where they came from.

MEETINGS

We meet as often as we can at members’ homes to enjoy fellowship with one another. We discuss how to cope with daily challenges, our children and now our grandchildren.

NIGERWIVES MATHEMATICS SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

Our branch organized a written mathematics competition in June 2019 in Primary 3 and 4 in Early Learning Centre, Aba. The participants were excited to compete as there are no mathematics competitions at that primary school level. It was a successful exercise for both the pupils, their teachers and Nigerwives. Winners received cash prizes. We hope to organize another competition next year with other schools in Aba.

DUST TO DUST

Irina Nwaobia (Russian) lost her beloved husband, Engr. Chief Chinyere Young Nwankuba Nwaobia (82 years old) in April 2019. He was buried in August 2019 in Obingwa L.G.A., Abia State.

Nina Nwankwo’s (Russian) husband, Dr.Eugene Obisike Nwankwo (79 years old) passed away in Britain. He was buried in December 2019 in his compound in Isiala Ngwa North L.G.A. in Abia State.

We attended both funeral services to commiserate with our sisters.

May their souls rest in perfect peace, amen.

THANKSGIVING

We rejoiced with Helga Oji as they had a grand thanksgiving service/celebration for her husband, Dr.Chief/Sir Dennis Oji’s 80th birthday on December 28, 2019. It was a wonderful family reunion with friends and well-wishers.
