MEMBERSHIP
We have ten (10) members, eighty percent of us are senior citizens, i.e. more than sixty years old. Our membership come from nine (9) countries: 2 Filipinos, 1 German, 1 Austrian, 1 American, 1 Indian, 1 Russian, 1 Jamaican, 1 British and 1 Canadian. There are two young new Nigerwives in Abia but they are non-English speaking ladies and prefer not to join our association.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
Many of our members travelled out of the country last year for medical check- up and holiday vacations. Despite the absence of some members, we held meetings almost every month.
NWBBPC: DONATIONS OF BRAILLED NOVELS AND READERS
Once again, the NWBBPC sent five (5) cartons of brailled novels and readers to our branch.
On December 7, 2017, we handed over the brailled books to the Abia State Special School for the Blind, Umuahia. The Abia State Ministry of Education sent three (3) of their staff nembers to witness the handing over. The branch Vice President, Helga Oji lead the members during the event in the absence of Celia Ogbonna (President).
The new Principal of the school, Ms. Celia Olugu who is also visually challenged was grateful for the books and support they regularly receive from Nigerwives. The branch members gave the pupils and staff members of the school snacks and gift items.
WEDDING BELLS
Emma Duru's youngest daughter, Maria Lourdes got married to Chukwuma Martin Mbakwe in June in U.S.A.
GRANDMOTHERS
More grandchildren for our members in 2017: 1 for Emma Duru, 1 for Linda Ezikpe, 1 for Zovana Onumah and 3 for Celia Ogbonna. We are looking forward to being great grandmothers in the future, God willing.
